Sighting: This Town

25 years ago- July, 1984, my sister took me to my first rock concert. It was at the Portland (Maine) Civic Center; INXS opened for the Go-Go's. This was back in the days of general admission... so although Nancy stayed in a seat to the side, I manuvered my way directly to the front. I stood right in front of Jane Wiedlin and Kathy Valentine... and I remember Jane singing her solo in Our Lips Are Sealed like it just happened.

So... now Jane is wearing a BGICT t-shirt, and she has written our theme music. Life works in mysterious and wonderful ways.

  1. Jane was always my favorite Go Go. Saw them with A Flock of Seagulls in Binghamton, NY. While my cousin and I were waiting for our ride home, the band's car drove up (we were near their hotel I guess) and they waved to us. Thrill of a lifetime! Can't wait to hear the song.

  3. Peter, that is a great coincidence. I vividly remember so much about that concert.

    * The house lights came up suddenly during TURN TO YOU. You could see the entire crowd on their feet dancing... I remember bottle rockets going off...
    * Jane trying to get everyone to take a step back, as those of us in the front were getting squashed
    * Bottle rockets going off
    * Thinking that "Girl of 100 Lists" was numb
    * Charlotte seemed stoned (yeah, if we only knew then!)
    * That I might never hear 1.5 hours of THAT KIND OF DRUMMING ever again

    It's funny that I've talked to band members about that tour- and while they have some amazing stories to tell about the tour (ALL OF THEM UNPRINTABLE!!!) none of them involve the actual concerts. :)

    Arthur, the song is just everything that you could hope for. The chorus is super catchy... it's all just right. When I listened to the demo that she sent I could only sit and smile. It was either that or melt into tears of joy. :)

  6. Very cool! She also had a great voice acting role in the shortly lived animated series Mission Hill. She cemented her place as my favorite Go-Go with that.
